The Immune-Boosting Supplements I Swear By
Since the beginning of the year, apart from trying (I said, trying) to eat nutritiously and drinking tons of water (game-changer), I’ve added a few supplements to my daily regime that have helped to boost my immune system, like no other. Since we’re in a time when we all are desiring to operate at optimal health levels, there’s no better moment to share them all!
Here are some of my favorite immune-boosting supplements:
The Wellness Formula From Whole Foods
All of my friends are currently like - “Yeah. She doesn’t ever shut up about these.”
And I sure don’t.
I’ve turned so many people onto these, that Whole Foods needs to start cutting me some checks. 😑 I swear by this formula even if I think I’m feeling under the weather. Stocked with vitamins, minerals, herbs and antioxidants, The Wellness Formula is designed to support a stressed immune system and maintain a happy one. If you don’t mind taking them in the form of stinky horse-pills, grab them in tablet form. Otherwise, try them in capsule form (you’ll just have to pop a few more).
Sea Moss
Meag (Meagan Good), introduced me to glory of Sea Moss. The benefits are ridiculous: packed with essential vitamins and minerals, it boosts immunity, aids digestion, optimizes thyroid health and increases energy. I will normally grab some pre-made Sea Moss Gel, but now, you can get it in pre-packaged form (and I love this place, in particular, for it’s herbs and natural products)! Add it to smoothies, blended drinks, or take it straight, no chaser, if yuh bad like dat. ;)
Black Seed Oil
Ok, I’m late to the game, but I just recently discovered Black Seed Oil - and YOU GUYS. What is IN this thing: healing stardust?! For real, it’s packed with thymoquinone; an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound, that is also said to have anti-cancer properties (and so much more). It’s epic. I was introduced to it this year by our set medic, Mike, when I was feeling a smidge under the weather a month ago and it snapped me back in two days. I now take it every day. Shout out to Mike for the hook-up!
Oregano Oil
One of my besties, Laurine, calls this: ‘Oil De Diablo’.😭 That is, if you consume it in liquid form. I mean, it just ain’t pretty. BUT, man, is it potent! With powerful antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant properties, Oregano Oil is remarkable for whenever your immune system has taken a slight turn.
Just a quick disclaimer: Oregano Oil is most effective when taken ‘as needed’ vs. every day. If taken daily for long periods of time, the antibacterial properties may start to affect the good bacteria we need in our systems.
Otherwise, pure magic. Here’s another liquid option that we love in our household!
P.S. To skip the taste of ‘Oil De Diablo’, you can also get it in tablet form, like this one!
Vitamin C + Zinc
The good ol’ faithfuls. If you’re taking the Wellness Formula above, you’re already getting about 1,300mg of Vitamin C + 23mg of Zinc per serving (or if you’re taking a multivitamin, double check the supplement facts). But, if you wanted to reinforce this serving with additional Vitamin C per day, you could. If you’re not taking any multivitamins or lacking nutrients in your every-day-eating, taking one full serving of Vitamin C as well as Zinc each day prove extremely beneficial in order to: help with tissue repair, encourage white blood cell production and catapult immunity levels.
Elderberry concentrate
I love me some Elderberry Concentrate. Taken by itself, or mixed into water in the morning, Elderberry helps to keep inflammation at bay, protect your heart and can even lessen stress (c’mon, somebody!). High in Vitamin C, fiber and flavonals (insanely awesome antioxidants), pure Elderberry has your BACK when it comes to aiding your immune system in flying high.
*(And, of course, since there is so much additional information about these supplements online, I highly encourage research before taking any of the above, to be sure that these would be a right fit for you!)*
